Garden Portraits

It has been a sunless and gloomy weekend, but the nice thing about gloomy days is that they are the best days to photograph the garden. Harsh sunlight can be very unflattering to a flower (the same theory applies to me!).

My first peony opened yesterday - this one is called "Krinkled White":

Here are a few more of my clematis that have started to flower - first is "The President" which is planted right next to "Miss Bateman":

"Dr. Rupple"

"Claire de Lune"

"Gillian Blades"

"Teshio":

And a couple of long shots showing "Miss Bateman" and "The President" flowering together with lupines on the right:

Life is a garden - dig in and enjoy!

I've decided to add this post as my offering to Outdoor Wednesday, hosted graciously by Susan at A Southern Daydreamer. Please stop in to see the rest of the wonderful posts there!

  2. I am really enjoying these garden posts! Your clematis are so beautiful and your are making me a convert though I don't have room for as many as you ;) Your lupines are gorgeous, I can't seem to grow those or foxglove...do you do anything special with your soils?

  3. Thank you, Monique and Marsha!

    I don't have much luck with foxglove either and I had tried to grow lupines for years before finally finding a spot they like, which is on the east side of the house so they only get morning sun. I don't know if that's it or they like the added warmth from being near the concrete patio and also the house.

    It's funny, it was actually a squirrel who first discovered the spot for me! I had planted lupine seeds from a Gardenbuddy in a different location and a squirrel transferred some of the seeds to this spot. I was shocked to see lupines growing there the following season ;) Perhaps I should try foxglove there too!

  4. Susan, great photos of beautiful flowers. I love the blue glass bird bath. Peonies finished blooming a couple of weeks ago in our area. Love "Krinkled White" ... quite a pretty one. And I never tire of seeing your gorgeous clematis.

    Interesting how the squirrel transferred some of your lupines. It's probably the first and last favor that you'll get from a squirrel. :)

    The lupines are such a gorgeous accent. May have to try those..I'll have to ask my squirrels the best place for them !! lol

  10. Everything is beautiful Susan. I love seeing the "full picture". Your garden is such a pretty place. Love the fence. It makes an amazing clematis habitat. I have a white "unnamed" peony that looks a lot like Krinkled White.
