Turkey Time - Literally!

Just in time for Thanksgiving~

This was a first-time-ever sighting in our yard this past week. As I was sitting at my desk, I saw a huge, black shape fly across the road into our woods followed by another and another. From a distance, it looked like a vulture but of course we don't have vultures here (it took a couple of seconds for my brain to come to that conclusion)! What could it be? Then another and another landed after it. There were five in all - wild turkeys!

They are huge birds! It was fun to watch them walk out of the woods and across our lawn. Sorry for the poor photos - I was shooting through the windows.

Then, a day afterward, a huge male deer crossed through my garden for a nibble or two and then passed quickly to the neighbor's yard before I could grab my camera. If you look closely you can see his antlers.

It's been a while since I've done Outdoor Wednesday at A Southern Daydreamer but I didn't have anything interesting to share until now :) Please stop in to see the rest of the Outdoor Wednesday posts!

J'aimerais habiter dans un endroit où les animaux se promènent en liberté
Bonne soirée

Great photos of the turkeys, Susan. We have lots of them in our area, until turkey season, then you don't see a one! Kansas also has many, many deer, whitetails, but when Howard was a kid there were none. I always enjoy your fantastic photos.

Oh wow! That was a big turkey! He's so lucky he's wild and won't end up in the oven. I think he's going to bring you luck :-)

Happy Outdoor Wednesday!

How fun is that to see these guys in your backyard! I think they like to be able to take cover in trees so we do not see them here except for in the river bottoms. Mr. Buck is an awful handsome fellow as well. Great shots!

These are great shots! They really are huge, and I didn't realize how tall they were. Love the picture of the deer, he's HUGE. The deer we have here are quite small. Happy Outdoor Wednesday. Kathy

I'm still chuckling at Carol's comment. ...

Susan, I think the pictures are fabulous especially since they were taken through your window. ...WOW 5 of them! Very impressive ... Really glad you had your camera handy.

We see them along the highways and in a large open area across from our subdivision, but never close to our home. I can remember it being a rarity to see a wild turkey.

We have them too, Susan..they are getting to be a nuisance so they are allowing hunting this week..
They hang out in the field with the deer. Pheasant too..a real wildlife bonanza..:)
