Start your morning or spice up your afternoon with this delicious banana bread with cinnamon-swirl filling and cinnamon-pecan crumble topping!
Inspiration for this delicious quick bread came from my friend, Monique, at La Table de Nana who had found the recipe here, who had found it here. I love how good recipes make their way around! I would have never thought to put a cinnamon swirl filling in banana bread but I'm so happy I tried it.
Instead of using the recipe for banana bread from the original post, I used my tried-and-true recipe for banana bread which, once again, comes from the cookbook 'Noteworthy' that I mentioned in my last post. I like this recipe because it makes enough to fill my 4-cavity mini loaf pan. I love to make four mini loaves so I can share or freeze whole mini loaves. Another change-up was to add chopped walnuts or pecans to the streusel on top of the bread. I was very pleased with the result! Monique makes hers with chocolate chips for her grandsons. I forgot but it was delicious just the way it was.
Whenever we have our grandsons over for the day, it's always a great excuse to bake something comforting and sweet. Care for a slice?
Banana Cinnamon-Swirl Bread
Adapted from La Table De Nana
Printable RecipeNotes: I used my favorite banana bread recipe. See the link above for making a 1-loaf recipe.
Yields 2 loaves or 4 mini loaves
¼ pound plus 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
1-1/3 cups sugar
4 eggs, beaten
4 cups sifted flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
3 cups mashed bananas (about 7)
For the swirl:
2/3 cup sugar (divided)
2 Tablespoon cinnamon (divided)
1 T melted butter
2/3 cup chopped walnuts
In a small dish, mix together the 1/3 cup sugar and 1 Tbs cinnamon.
In another small dish, mix together the remaining sugar, cinnamon, chopped walnuts and melted butter.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly butter and flour loaf pans or spray with nonstick baking spray.
In large bowl, (I use my stand mixer) cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and mix well. Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add alternately with bananas to egg mixture.
Add 1/2 of the batter to the loaf pans and then sprinkle the plain cinnamon-sugar mixture all over the batter in the pan. Add the rest of the batter, and then sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar with the nuts and butter on top.
Bake for 50-60 minutes, for large loaves or about 40 minutes for mini loaves. Test with a toothpick 1-10 minutes before the end of baking time. Remove pans from oven if toothpick comes out clean.

I think I was trying to do too many things at once today :) It was fantastico! Thank you for sharing a wonderful 'keeper' recipe!
That sounds and looks so good. I have never thought of the combination of cinnamon swirl with banana.
Yum ! looks and sounds like something I would like. I will take pecans in the topping - please. :)
Enjoy your weekend.
Oh my goodness, that looks delicious, Susan. The swirl of cinnamon and sugar really makes this bread special. I always try to have something special right out of the oven when grandkids come to visit. Can't wait to bake this for them.
Yes, I'd love a slice (or two) thank you! That bread looks wonderful- the cinnamon swirl and topping make it extra special. I love to bake with my grandson too, and I'm sure he'd love this! :)
Just when you think banana bread couldn't get any better, this looks great! Also lovin' that triple chocolate mousse cake on your side bar:@)
Such a cute way to cook banana bread. I'm always looking for new ideas. Love the topping too. Also love how the sliced open cake looks like it's smirking!!
Monique is an inspiration to all who read her blog. Who wouldn't love your banana bread for breakfast, certainly I know I would. Hope you have a lovely weekend.
Sam
Love those little loaves, Susan. Clever to swirl the cinnamon filling. Going to dig out MT favorite bb recipe and make this ASAP! (Is there anything better than a crumb topping ?)
I hadn't either but it's great! Thanks, Vee.
Pecans just for you :) Thank you, Glenda.
Next time I'm trying the chocolate chips like Monique does for her boys :) Thanks, Cathy - I hope they love it!
Thank you, Mary! I'm sure he will ;)
I know! Hard to improve on banana bread but this does. Oh, the mousse cake is wonderful!
Ha-ha! I didn't see the smirk before but now I do :) Thanks, Dom!
I'm getting ready to warm up a slice now :) Thank you, Sam!
I love a streusel-y nut topping. When I make plain banana bread I always add nuts. I guess that's not plain then, is it? LOL. Thank you, Barbara!
Hello! Happy Saturday! Wishing I had a piece of this beautiful bread to go with my coffee this morning! Looks just delicious!!!
I love these little breads look amazing Susan!!!
xoxo
I find so many enticing things on Monique's blog, this looks amazing and I LOVE the pan! And on another subject, why is the preview button so close to the publish button? That's just bad design ;)

The colour, swirl and that topping...o boy..my mouth is watering terribly, Susan. These mini quick bread loaves look sensational!
Hi Susan, I love reading Monique's blog, she has great style. The topping looks fantastic on this bread love the cinnamon swirl.
I have done that a few times, hit publish instead of preview. Messes everyone up and makes me feel a perfect dolt.
Wrong to be so silly about it, isn't it. I guess it's more accurate to say it happens to just about everyone when they are a bit distracted and in a hurry. Lovely recipe, btw. I am thinking about cinnamon and banana as I write... love the combo.
I have a slice with my coffee in the morning too :) Thank you, Julie!
Thank you, Gloria!
Good point! I should send a letter off to Google :) Anyone listening? LOL. Thank you, Sue.
Thank you very much, Catherine!
It is :) Thank you, Rebecca!
Thank you, Angie! They are :)
So true what you say about Monique :) Thank you, Cheri!
I know - I felt so silly and didn't discover I had even done it until I got a nice message from a friend on Facebook. I have to learn not to multi-task :)
I've done it too. But so glad that you came back with this delicious recipe. It is amazing, as are you and Monique.
These little loaves look adorable as well as delicious! If it's any consolation, the other day I meant to delete a bunch of spam comments but deleted all my posts instead - YIKES! Thank God I was able to get them back ~ Cheers:)
Cinnamon swirl bread is one of my favorites but you took it to the next level with this banana bread! Totally adding to my must bake soon list!
That cinnamon swirl is definitely a BEST THING. Also, I totally love that this makes four mini loaves! Perfect for freezing and spreading out the banana bread love!
Thank you very much, Penny ;)
Oh my! You must have had a panic moment there :) Thanks so much for stopping by, Stephanie!
Thank you, Pamela. Life's little comfort loaves :)
It was! Thank you, Joanne!
Well Susan, this Banana Cinnamon Swirl looks far better than the oatmeal I had this morning!
Even with cinnamon, butter and maple syrup, it'd never measure up. And, since teleporting a tiny loaf of your bread is not yet possible, I'll have to make this wonderful bread myself.
Can I just eat the streusel off the top? Wow, that looks melt in your mouth!
Oh, wow! You have two delicious breads rolled into one fabulous loaf. Sure does look good!
Thanks for your inspiration and recipe, made this the other day for grand kids ..they loved it;-)
My goodness Susan - this loaf looks amazing! That pan is pretty terrific too. I love having an excuse to bake something great to share - it makes me happy too! That cinnamon swirl is beautiful!
We would enjoy these Susan! Have fun in PB :-)
These look great Susan! I love anything with bananas, the name cake in the title, and something in cute little pans! Also guess I should check out Monique's blog!
Oh, these are to die for, delicious loaves ! Have a great day my dear, a warm hug
Oh Susan, I have not baked banana bread for ages...we used to have lots of banana when buying them at Costco...and I could never use them all, now seeing this recipe, I wish I have extra bananas...I love the sugary-cinnamon swirl...and the idea of mini loaf is very attractive.
Have a great week :)
Wow! The cinnamon swirl brings a banana loaf to a whole new level, Susan! I always have ripe bananas in my freezer, and I'll try this next time I make a loaf.
Such an amazing looking loaf! I can just imagine the aroma from the cinnamon and top with the fragrance from the banana, is a sure winner!
I love oatmeal too, Sol :) Hope you enjoy it the bread - it's delicious!
Sure, I do :)
Thank you, Lorraine! It is good!
I'm so glad to hear that, Patty! Thanks for letting me know :)
